[origin: EP0286474A1] A mechanism (10) for operating a switch with three positions comprises an energy-accumulating spring tumbler device (12) associated with a toggle (16), a main operating handle (26) controlled by a switching shaft (28), and an earthing handle (38) rotatably mounted on a first operating axle (52). Opening and closing are brought about by means of a second operating axle (62) which is offset from the operating shaft (28) and cooperates with a kinematic chain (64) intended to drive the toggle (16). A catch lever (78) for the main handle (26) is disengaged by a hub (90) when the toggle (16) is near the neutral point. <IMAGE>
