[origin: EP0286908A1] So that a press, for setting-up purposes, can carry out defined fine strokes which are triggered by touch commands, on the one hand the position and speed of the tool (OW) or its immediate driving member (E) is measured, and on the other hand the size and direction of the envisaged fine stroke (delta x) is predetermined. From all these values, a converter (U2) determines the duration of a control signal (ST), which triggers the engagement of a clutch (K) which is arranged in the transmission path between the drive (M) and the tool (OW) of the press. <IMAGE>
