Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0287857A2] The stair-climbing device (15) which is suitable for example for wheelchairs (10) and driven by an electric motor has two running wheel pairs (17a/17b) which swivel about drive shafts (20a, 20b) which are separate and eccentric but driven together and which running wheel pairs thus successively come to rest on a step of the stair or are lowered thereon. At the same time, blocking of the individual running wheels during their swivel movement can be carried out by means of braking devices assigned to the individual running wheels (17a, 17b) in order to prevent an undesired rolling away of the wheelchair (10) over the edge of a stair. <IMAGE>
