[origin: EP0287976A2] In the depilating device, the clamping device for the removal of hairs consists of a tweezer block (32) with about 10 to 60 parallel slats which can be spread apart by a drive apparatus (13) to oscillate periodically at a frequency of about 2000 to 15000 min<-><1> and can be braced against one another after the intake of hairs. The tweezer block (32) is also moved by the drive apparatus (13) back and forth between a clamping position, which lies near to a support apparatus, and the spread apart position which is remote from said support apparatus. In this case, a superimposed, oscillating swivel movement of the tweezer block (32) takes place about an axis which extends perpendicular to the axis of symmetry of the tweezer block (32) and parallel to the spreading direction of the slats. By this means, an assumed point on the free end of the slats executes a movement, the path of which extends approximately on a rectangle. By this means, the hairs are taken in more easily prior to removal and then knocked out. The arrangement is accommodated with the support apparatus in a handy housing. <IMAGE>
