Abstract (en)
The device for powering a discharge lamp (1) comprises a starter (4) and a generator which is able to sustain a discharge current in the lamp. <??>The generator includes a first circuit (5) comprising the series placement of a DC voltage source (U1), a first switch (I1) and a second switch (I2). When the first switch is closed, the second is open and vice versa. A second circuit (6) comprising the series placement of an inductor (L) and the lamp is connected in parallel with the second switch. The switches (I1 and I2) are worked by a control device (7) which combines the signals received from an oscillator (9) and from a comparator (11) in order to monitor the current flowing in the lamp. <??>The generator behaves like a stabilised current source whatever the load applied to it and can be used equally well for a lamp for lighting or to power the luminous positions of a matrix display board. <IMAGE>
