The invention relates to a reciprocating piston, the variable compression height of which can be specifically varied by means of a regulating device. When used in a combustion engine, the optimum compression ratio can thereby be set for each operating point. The facility exists for reducing the compression height irrespective of pressure values acting on the piston head. In a preferred embodiment an oil-filled control chamber and damping chamber are provided whose feed and outlet ducts can be closed or opened by means of a control piston arranged in the piston pin. For positioning, the control piston is subjected to lubricating oil of varying pressure. <IMAGE>

Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf einen Hubkolben, dessen veränderbare Kompressionshöhe durch eine Regeleinrichtung gezielt verändert werden kann. Bei Einsatz in einer Brennkraftmaschine ist somit das für jeden Betriebspunkt optimale Verdichtungsverhältnis einstellbar. Die Möglichkeit einer Reduzierung der Kompressionshöhe unabhängig von auf den Kolbenboden auftreffenden Druckwerten ist gegeben. In einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform sind eine ölbefüllte Steuerkammer und Dämpfungskammer vorgesehen, deren Zufuhr- und Ablaufkanäle mittels eines im Kolbenbolzen angeordneten Steuerkolbens verschließbar bzw. freigebbar sind. Zur Positionierung wird der Steuerkolben mit Schmieröl verschiedenen Druckes beaufschlagt.
