[origin: EP0290423A2] The device comprises, in succession, a mould (3, 6) in which the metal is forced to flow from top to bottom as a thin blade (15) driven in a gyratory movement along the inner wall of the said mould, and in which the metal is subjected to a primary cooling, cooling means (6) in which the metal is subjected to a cooling causing complete solidification of the said metal into a solid tube (11), and an apparatus (9, 10) for cutting up the said tube along a helical line inclined at an angle ( alpha ) which is suitable for the desired thickness (B) of the metal strip (12). It also comprises means for distributing the molten metal over the inner wall of the mould, particularly a nozzle with a closed end (1) having one or more lateral outlet channels for the molten metal. The mould consists of at least two successive sections; preferably, the first (3) of these sections has an internal cross-section which increases in the direction of flow of the metal and at least the second (6) of these sections can rotate about its longitudinal axis. <IMAGE>
