Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0290637A1] The process for operating a calender machine, having a bending- compensating roll, fixes an operating pressure for each effective point to which pressure can be applied, so that a load parameter in the pressing nip has a predetermined set value. First of all, a pressure reaction matrix is formed, the elements of which indicate the change in the load parameter in all the zones in the case of a change in pressure at only one effective point in each case. Then, in the case of a change in set value, a change in pressure compensating fully or partially for the difference between actual value and set value of the load parameter is calculated using the pressure reaction matrix successively step by step in each case for the effective point of a zone. For all the other zones, the changed actual value of the load parameter resulting from this change in pressure is calculated. If the value drops below a tolerance value, the operating pressure for each zone can be corrected by the sum of all pressure changes. These iteration calculations are carried out in a control device by a programmed arithmetic device (16). <IMAGE>
