Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0291295A2] An explosion-proof electrical generator includes a toroidal casing (1) with one open end (11) and a central circular end plate (4, 5 and 6); a circular cover (2) closing the open end (11); a stator (26) defined by laminated plates (30) and windings (32) located in the annular recess (27) of the casing (1); and a rotor (35) mounted in the cover (2) and including a shaft (36), and a bowl-shaped cup (48) carrying a ring of permanent magnets (47) in its side wall (52), which extends into the casing recess (27) between the stator (26) and the outer side wall (3) of the casing (1). Cooling fins (10 and 19) are provided on the casing (1) and cover (2) for dissipating heat produced in the generator. The generator has a circuitous or small interior flame path for reducing flame temperature and thus the likelihood of fire or explosion outside of the generator.
