[origin: EP0291703A1] The gear machine (pump or motor) has two externally intermeshing gear wheels (14, 15), the shafts (16, 17) of which are supported in bearing elements (18, 19). Lying against at least one side of the gear side faces is a sealing plate (26), which lies between the gear wheels and the bearing elements. Arranged on the end face of a bearing element facing the sealing plate (26) is a seal (27) which takes the form of two concentric centre rests, the rings (30, 31) being connected to one another by webs (32 to 34). In this way two pressure fields (38, 39) are produced which can be subjected to or relieved of pressure. In this way the sealing plate can be pressed more or less strongly against the gear side faces. In this way a good efficiency is achieved owing to the reduction in fluid leakage and relieving of the housing (10), since hydraulic fluid cannot penetrate the area of the bearing element. <IMAGE>
