[origin: EP0291721A2] A sheet transfer cylinder is provided, as seen in the sheet- movement direction, between the printing cylinders of two printing mechanisms. This is followed by a sheet layer having an essentially flat laying surface roughly tangential to the sheet transfer cylinder. The sheet transfer cylinder pushes the guided sheet, with the free front edge of the sheet leading onto the sheet layer during the approach of the grippers holding the rear edge of the sheet. From there, the sheet is lifted again with the rear edge of the sheet leading by additional grippers on the sheet transfer cylinder. By this method of sheet-turning with the assistance of an essentially flat sheet layer, it is possible to achieve a low construction height for the machine, and the sheet-turning takes place reliably even with thick card. <IMAGE>
