Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0291766A2] An apparatus for straightening a steel strand continuously cast in a curve by means of a casting wheel or a bow-type continuous casting machine is described. The strand is guided between straightening points using rolls, such as straightening, bending, guide, counter-rolls and/or corresponding pairs of rolls in accordance with a certain law, at least two roll pairs which transmit bending moments to the strand at a distance from one another being provided. The first roll pair is simultaneously the roll pair situated directly downstream of the point of emergence of the strand from the casting machine in the direction of movement of the strand or is formed by the casting wheel (the curved mould) and an associated straightening roll. The second roll pair determines the transition of the strand from a still finite radius of curvature into a straight line (infinite radius of curvature) at the end of the bending zone. Between these two roll pairs, further rolls can be located exclusively along the outer side of the strand.
