[origin: EP0294322A2] The pump has an inlet and an outlet for the fluid to be pumped as well as a housing (11) which contains an elongated internal chamber (31) which is defined at one end by an end section (17) and in which a piston (35) is displaceably guided. The inlet is connected via a first non-return valve (63) to the pump chamber (33) located between the end section (17) and the piston (35), which chamber in turn is connected via a second non-return valve (71) to the outlet. The piston (35) is fitted with a third non-return valve (99), which additionally connects the inlet to the pump chamber (33) and during the intake cycles, particularly in their initial phases, allows pressure drops, which in the pump chamber (33) might cause liquid fluid to be converted into gaseous fluid, to be largely avoided. <IMAGE>
