Process for colouring articles made of zinc, zinc-plated and made of an alloy of this metal, characterised in that the article is subjected to the action of an acidic aqueous bath to make the surface of the article porous over a thickness which is a fraction of the thickness of the zinc which it comprises and in that at least one sealing material is caused to be adsorbed by the article.
