Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0296125A2] The covering element (2) for a chimney serves to cover the chimney head of chimneys which are brick-lined or made of chimney elements. In order to avoid cold bridges and the associated extremely disadvantageous condensate formation in the waste gas outlet region of the chimney, the covering element (2) has a heat-insulating part (3) consisting of heat-insulating material, which covers the upwardly directed end face of the chimney head. This heat-insulating part (3) is surrounded on its upper, inner and outer side (4, 5, 6) by a water- impervious covering (7) and extends from the outside of the expansion joint sleeve (10) as far as over the outer edge of the chimney. The expansion joint sleeve (10) is rigidly connected in a thermally insulated manner, via a practically non-heat-conducting silicone rubber layer (28), to the downwardly directed surface of the upper side (4) of the covering (7). The underside of the heat-insulating material (3) is supported by a copper net (8) or a number of copper bands and thus brushed over, over practically its entire surface, by the circulation air which flows through the rear ventilation ducts (13) and escapes into the open behind the drip sheet (9). <IMAGE>
