Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0297180A1] Apparatus for and methods of providing a multiplicity of streams of air-entrained fibres. The apparatus is of the type which includes a splitting member (200) having multiple ports (202, 204, 206, 208) disposed along the splitting member (200); a first conduit means such as a conduit duct (210) for directing a column of air past a first port (202), the first conduit means being in communication with the first port (202); and a second conduit means such as a conduit duct (212) for directing a column of air past a second port (204), the second conduit means being in communication with the second port (204). The method preferably comprises the steps of: a. directing a column of fibres along a splitting member (200) having a first port (202) and a second port (204); b. directing a column of air through a first conduit means (210) and past the first port (202) so as to draw a portion of the fibre column into the first conduit means (210) to form a first fibre stream (54); c. entraining the first fibre stream (54) in the air; d. directing the first fibre stream (54) downstream; e. directing a column of air through a second conduit means (212) and past a second port (204) so as to draw a portion of the column of fibres into the second conduit means (212) to form a second fibre stream (58); f. entraining the second fibre stream (58) in the air; and g. directing the second fibre stream (58) downstream.
