[origin: EP0297220A2] In order to ensure the unhindered infeeding of a sheet beneath a holding-down clamp near to the fixed sidemark of a side-pull device as well as a gentle smoothing of the lateral edge of the sheet by the holding-down clamp, a controllable holding-down clamp (21) is arranged so as to be movable up and down perpendicularly to the direction of sheet movement near to the fixed side-mark (20), and is raised by a controlling device after each lateral alignment of the sheet and lowered again for smoothing the lateral edge of the following sheet to be aligned on its lateral edge.
