[origin: JPS6422795A] PURPOSE: To obliquely move a safety frame to a safe position by forming a wedge-shaped recess having a specified shape in the safety frame at the time of loading the safety frame on a rib and applying a stepping force, to close an air gap between a step and a base plate, to eliminated the influence of dust on the step and to preventing the pulling of clothes. CONSTITUTION: The wedge-shaped recesses 12 and 4 of a safety frame 12 made of elastic plastic are extended on the full length of two ribs 12 and 2 positioned in the outermost side of the safety frame 12, and the base plate 5 side of an escalator is completely closed by closing walls 12 and 6. When the ribs 12 and 2 located in the outermost side of the safety frame 12 are pressed or a load is applied, the safety frame 12 of the step is tilted around rotary shafts 12 and 5 belonging to the wedge-shaped recesses 12 and 4. Following this tilting, the safety ribs 12 and 1 of the safety frame 12 are brought into contact with the base plate 5, and an air gap between the base plate 5 and the step is closed. Thus, the pulling of escalator user's clothes into the air gap is prevented.
