[origin: EP0297356A1] In a landfill site, particularly for final deposition of radioactive substances, the remaining voids between deposited waste are filled with a stowing material, to which at least one substance is admixed on which gaseous pollutants, especially radioactive gases, are adsorbed. Usual stowing materials are rock, salt or iron ore. To improve the retention capacity of the stowing materials with respect to gases, they are mixed, for example, with pyrolysis coke. A suitable proportion is 20% by weight of pyrolysis coke. Instead of pyrolysis coke, a residue from the hydropyrolysis of coal, a residue from oil shale carbonisation or activated carbon can be mixed with the stowing material.
