[origin: EP0298791A1] This device comprises, between an engine (3) and a drive shaft (10) for the drive wheel, a transmission with pulleys (4, 7) and belt (8) together with means provided between a shaft (6) of a starting pedal (21) and the crankshaft (2) of the engine (3), the transmission being formed by a drive pulley (7) firmly attached to the crankshaft (2) and a receiver pulley (4) mounted on a shaft (5) capable of driving the drive wheel by way of a clutch (20), and the drive shaft (10); a pair of gears (9, 11) is arranged between the shaft (6) of the pedal (21) and the tubular shaft (5) of the receiver pulley (4) in order to transmit the rotation of the first shaft (6) to the second (5), which in turn drives the receiver pulley (4) and the drive pulley (7) connected to the crankshaft (2) in order to start the engine (3). This arrangement reduces the overall dimensions whilst providing an adequate speed increasing ratio between the shaft of the starting pedal (21) and the crankshaft (2). <IMAGE>
