Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0298904A1] It is proposed to arrange crossbars (24) consisting of right-angled profiles in the ballast bed under steel sleepers (3) for railway tracks, the first flange of which profiles is welded with the base of the sleeper and the second flange of which projects perpendicular away from the base deep into the ballast bed. As a result, the lateral forces which occur on the passage of a train are absorbed by the rails and sleepers and a transverse displacement of the sleepers and of the entire track is prevented. For an optimum design of the crossbars, they can be used as a stacking aid during the transport of the steel sleepers which have been preassembled ready for laying at the manufacturer's, so that shipping timbers can be discarded. <IMAGE>
