[origin: EP0299292A2] The invention relates to a longitudinal voltage regulator for a load which stores electrical energy, having a regulating element (Q1, Q2), which is arranged in a longitudinal path of the regulator and is driven by an error amplifier (F), via a control transistor (Q3), which regulator regulates out a difference between a reference voltage (VREF) and a voltage which is proportional to the regulator output voltage (VA). According to the invention, a comparator (Q4 to Q7), which compares the regulator output voltage (VA) with the regulator input voltage (VE), is provided, whose output (K) activates a controllable switch (Q8), which switches off the control transistor (Q3) when the regulator input voltage (VE) drops to a value less than the regulator nominal output voltage. <IMAGE>
