[origin: EP0299915A1] A workpiece (5, 6) is clamped in a collet (7) and lies with its shank (6) and with its part (5) to be machined on independently adjustable supports (4 and 3 resp.). These supports can be adjusted in a precision manner in several directions in order to ensure well-defined support of the entire workpiece in a stable position irrespective of the clamping accuracy in the collet (7). Very accurate machining of the smallest tools and the like without supports of complicated shape and without overstressing the material of the workpiece is thus possible. <IMAGE>
