[origin: EP0300179A1] Printed products (14) are released from the incoming flow (T) of overlapping products by means of a separating arrangement (58) and supplied to the buffer branch (30). The printed products (14) which are not released are passed by the supply means (22) to the feeder (12) while forming an overlapping-product buffer. In the buffer branch (30), the released printed products (14) are wound in overlapping formation (U) onto a buffer reel (64) by means of a buffer-reel band (68). In the event of gaps in the incoming flow (T), the printed products (14) stored in the buffer reel (64) are unwound and fed to the supply means (22), so that the overlapping formation (S) is not interrupted. Since the buffer reel (64) has a considerable storage capacity, it is possible even for relatively long gaps in the flow (T) supplied to be bridged without needing to adjust the functioning of the feeder (12). <IMAGE>
