[origin: WO8901177A1] A light-modulation cell comprises at least a first electronically conductive, transparent electrode; a second electrode separated transversally from the first electrode; at least one layer of electrolytic material interposed between the two electrodes and in contact with them in the region of a point image or image segment; regions for supplying an electric current to the electrodes which permit the application to the first electrode of a voltage negative with respect to that of the second and the passage between the electrodes of a current in the opposite direction to that of the electric current resulting from the application of the preceding voltage. This cell makes it possible to write at least a point image or image segment; to maintain it in the written state; and conversely to efface it.

Cellule de modulation de la lumière qui comporte au moins une première électrode transparente, électroniquement conductrice ; une seconde électrode écartée transversalement de la première électrode, électroniquement conductrice ; au moins une couche de matériau électrolytique interposée entre les deux électrodes et en contact avec elles dans la région d'un point-image ou d'un segment d'image ; des zones d'amenée du courant électrique sur les électrodes aptes à permettre d'appliquer à la première électrode une tension électrique négative par rapport à celle de la seconde et de faire passer entre les électrodes un courant dont le sens est opposé à celui du courant électrique résultant de l'application de la tension précédente. Cette cellule permettant l'écriture d'au moins un point-image ou segment d'image ; le maintien dans l'état écrit ; et reversiblement l'effacement.
