[origin: WO8806340A1] The irradiation installation comprises an irradiation chamber (1) with the radiation source (2) and a transport system. The course of the transport unit can be preselected separately by means of control elements attached to the said unit. The goods to be irradiated are loaded on to transport units and brought to and from the irradiation tracks (3) on tracks (10, 11) and sliding devices (8, 8A) of two transverse tracks (4, 4A). During loading or unloading of the sliding devices (8, 8A) on to the irradiation track (3), one sliding device (8, 8A) of each transverse track (4, 4A) is always located at either end of the irradiation track (3). Sensors located at the forks or intersections of the transport system tracks supply a control system which ensures that after each loading or unloading operation on an irradiation track (3) not more than one of the two opposing sliding devices (8, 8A) is loaded. Such an irradiation installation makes it possible to irradiate simultaneously smaller quantities of various goods and seldom necessitates readjustment of the installation. The operating costs of such an installation are substantially lower than those of known irradiation installations.
