[origin: WO8806185A1] Recombinant DNA molecules capable of expressing either the PreS1-PreS2-S or PreCore-Core genes of HBV in vertebrate cells transfected therewith. Methods of producing compositions displaying the antigenicity of HBsAg and HBeAg utilizing cells transfected with the recombinant DNA molecules of the present invention are also contemplated, as are the transfected cells and antigenic compositions themselves. Further contemplated are diagnostic kits and vaccines containing the antigenic compositions of the present invention.
