The casting slot formed by the two casting rolls is supplied with molten metal (9) from a refractory reservoir (8) via a channel (10). A heating device (13) for the local heating of the molten metal (9) and for the local preheating of the circumferential surface (16) of the bottom roll (1) is provided in the region of the gap (20) between the base of the channel (10) and the circumferential surface (16) of the bottom roll (1).
