[origin: JPS6453007A] PURPOSE: To remove the play between a spherical end face of a pivot and a spherical cavity of a joint socket by engaging a retaining member which is made of a spring element that is borne by elastic bias against the joint socket. CONSTITUTION: An idle compensating member 2 is arranged in a rocker arm 1 and a spherical end face 5 of a pivot 4 of the idle compensating member 2 is engaged with a spherical cavity 6 of a joint socket 7. A plane surface 8 of the joint socket 7 contacts with an end of a valve stem 3. An end of a restraining element 10 which is made of a spring element is linked to the end of a piston of the idle compensating member 2 by way of a collar 11. The restraining element 10 is biased elastically, then an another side of a leg part 12 cooperates with the joint socket 7. Thereby, the play between the spherical end surface 5 and the spherical cavity 6 can be removed.
