Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0301390A2] A feeler head for coordinate measuring machines has a torsionally stiff, zero-backlash and frictionless spring system which defines a spatial coordinate system and carries a feeler that can be displaced in all three spatial directions. Provided for each of the three coordinate directions is a position measuring system, which preferably operates incrementally and is connected in each case to a zero indicator for detecting the zero position of the system. In the event of contact between the object to be measured and the feeler head, a trigger pulse is initiated by a sensor. A downstream electronic system processes the different signals supplied by the feeler head in an optional fashion such that the feeler head can be operated to switch or to measure. <IMAGE>
