Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0301512A2] In a thermal transfer printing device comprising a housing (10), a transport mechanism (20, 24) for a flat recording carrier (22), a transport mechanism (40, 42) for an ink ribbon (38) carrying an ink capable of being thermally activated, which is led parallel to the recording carrier (22) for a part of its transport path, is capable of being pressed against the carrier (22) and has a mounting for an ink-ribbon supply reel (40) and a driveable take-up roller (42), with which a heating device is associated in such a way that the colour layers of the ink-ribbon roll melt, as well as a thermal head (26) arranged in the area of contact and extending at least approximately over the width of the ink-ribbon (38), the inkribbon (38) runs on to the take-up roller (42) in such a way that the colour layers are inside, a heater bar (46) being provided as a heating device which extends parallel to the take-up roller and approximately over the length of the latter, is mounted so as to be able to move perpendicularly to the axis of the roller and is pre-tensioned against the circumferential surface of the ink-ribbon roll. <IMAGE>
