[origin: US4856119A] A helmet for protecting a head according to this invention has a hard shell generally symmetrical to a longitudinal plane and having a rear edge normally juxtaposed with the nape of the neck of the wearer and a pair of front temple regions flanking the plane and normally juxtaposed with the temples of the wearer, a rear center strap having two ends and lying generally on the plane and a pair of similar side straps generally symmetrically flanking the plane and each having a rear end fixed to the other end of the center strap and a front end secured to the helmet at the respective temple region. The one end of the center strap is adjustably secured to the shell at the rear edge therefor generally on the plane. Respective fittings are slidable on the side straps between the ends thereof and a chin strap extends between the fittings and normally passes under the chin of the wearer.

Der Schutzhelm besitzt eine Gabelkinnberiemung, die aus zwei beidseits am Helm jeweils im Bereich des Helmrandes etwa in der hinteren Helmmitte (6) einerseits und etwa im Schläfenbereich (7) andererseits angeschlossenen Gabelriemen (8, 8') und einem Kinnriemen (9) besteht, der beide Gabelriemen verbindet und dazu an jeden Gabelriemen mittels eines längs des Gabelriemens verschiebbaren Beschlags (10) angeschlossen ist. Der Beschlag (10) besitzt mehrere zueinander geneigte Schlitze (11), die von dem am Beschlag (10) einstückig zusammenhängenden Gabelriemen (8, 8') durchlaufen sind und in denen sich der Gabelriemen unter vom Kinnriemen (9) ausgeübten Zug verklemmt. Die beiden Gabelriemen (8, 8') sind an dem vom jeweiligen Beschlag (10) abgewandten Ende ihrer nackenseitigen Riementeile miteinander und gemeinsam mit einem Mittelriemen (14) verbunden, der im wesentlichen in der Scheitelebene des Helms verläuft und längenverstellbar an den Helm angeschlossen ist.
