Device for clamping and holding elements to be joined together by glueing, stapling, nailling or riveting, consisting of a ribbon (1) wound at one end on a spool (2) and fixed at its other end on a control shaft (3), the assembly being mounted in a protective housing (4), and of pick-up and positioning members (5) at the corners, characterised in that the control shaft (3) is a disengageable shaft surmounted by a control button (6) which can be shifted on said shaft (3) and can be locked in various shift positions on this shaft (3), this control button (6) also being provided with a toothed pinion (7) capable of cooperating, in one shift position of the button (6), with a pinion (a) integral with the split shaft (9) of the spool (2) for winding the ribbon (1) and, in another shift position of the button (6), with a spring (11), loaded ratchet (10), the ribbon (1) wound on the spool (2) traversing the control shaft (3) which is split for this purpose so as to form a loop (14) issuing from the housing (4).
