[origin: EP0303072A2] Fitting for headlamps, especially for motor vehicles, which are equipped with a screening pane or lens which are coated, in particular by zones, with semiconductor materials whose optical transparency can be switched. Arranged in a reflector (10) of a headlamp is an incandescent lamp (11) which emits light beams which radiate via the reflector (10) in the direction of the lens (16) or screen (3). Mounted additionally in the headlamp are controllable light sources (20, 30) which as controlled light sources emit light of a specific wavelength. The lightbeams emanating from the additional light sources impinge on the inner side, provided with bistable crystals, of the lens (16) or of the screen (3), and given a specific light intensity cooperate with the light intensity emanating from the reflector (10) to switch the bistable crystals from optical opacity to optical transparency. The light distribution of a headlamp can be automatically controlled in this way. <IMAGE>
