Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0303262A2] Inorganic carriers, in particular made of glass or ceramic, for the immobilisation of microorganisms or of human, animal or plant cells are provided with a surface layer which promotes cell attachment and which is formed by dialkylaminoalkyldextran, especially DEAE-dextran, which is attached to the carrier by pure adsorption or covalently. DEAE-dextrans with a minimum content of dimeric DEAE groups, in particular < 50%, especially <254> 35%, are preferred. Molecular weights between 100,000 and 2 x 10<6> are expedient and should be as large as possible without leading to entanglement. The N content is preferably between 0.5 and 5%, in particular 3 - 4% and preferably 3.3%. A surface layer of this type provides, in particular, open-pore sintered glasses with a dual pore structure having macropores of 20 to 500 mu m and, in the walls of the macropores, micropores of 1 to 10 mu m. <IMAGE>
