[origin: WO8807481A1] A closure (10) for containers (12) having a circumferential groove (22) formed by opposed conical surfaces (24, 26) of substantially equal size in the relaxed condition and upon compression of the closure (10) forming a substantially toroidal circumferential groove. On a container (12) sealed with the closure (10) compressed, expansion of the circumferential groove (22) to the relaxed condition indicates failure of the seal or generation of gases within the container (12). In an alternate embodiment the circumferential conical surfaces (124, 126) form a V-shaped circumferential protrusion (128) in the compressed condition. In another embodiment the circumferential juncture between the conical surfaces and the closure sidewall is modified to reduce the flexure between the compressed and expanded conditions thereby permitting a wider variety of materials to be used for the closures.

Fermeture (10) pour récipient (12) ayant une cannelure circonférentielle (22) formée par des surfaces coniques opposées (24, 26) d'une taille sensiblement égale lorsqu'elles ne sont pas sollicitées, formant une cannelure circonférentielle sensiblement toroïdale lorsque la fermeture (10) est compressée. Dans un récipient (12) fermé hermétiquement par la fermeture (10) compressée, la dilatation de la cannelure circonférentielle (22) entraînant la non-sollicitation des surfaces indique un mauvais fonctionnement du joint hermétique ou la production de gaz à l'intérieur du récipient (12). Dans un autre mode de réalisation les surfaces coniques circonférentielles (124, 126) forment une protubérance (128) circonférentielle en forme de V dans la position compressée. Selon un troisième mode de réalisation, la jointure circonférentielle entre les surfaces coniques et les parois latérales de fermeture est modifiée afin de réduire la flexion entre les positions compressée et dilatée permettant ainsi d'utiliser une plus large variété de matériaux pour les fermetures.
