Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0306615A1] The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a sabot projectile and to a sabot projectile manufactured by this method, in which a thin uniform layer of rubber is coated onto the rear gas-pressure receiving surface in a vulcanising tool with an injection mould for the purpose of fixing the individual sabot segments together and sealing them off from one another. <??>During the injection of the liquid sealing material into the injection mould, there is a danger that, as a result of the high pressure prevailing during this, sealing material will penetrate in an uncontrolled way into the cylindrical inner annular gap between the sabot and projectile body. <??>This can lead to considerable impairment of the separation behaviour of the sabot segments and to a reduction of the target-diagram quality. <??>According to the invention, this disadvantage is eliminated in that, before the sabot projectile is inserted into the vulcanising tool, the rear annular gap between the sabot and projectile body is sealed off by the application of a sealing means on the circumference of the projectile body. A sabot projectile manufactured according to the invention is characterised by a sealing ring (22) arranged in front of the rear annular gap between the sabot (12) and projectile body (11) and vulcanised into the rubber coating (19) applied to the rear gas-pressure receiving surface (18) of the sabot (12). <IMAGE>
