Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0308626A2] Self-blasting switches, with blasting produced by the arc, have a gas storage chamber in which the expanded gas is compressed and out of which it flows back to the extinguishing path when the current is approaching the point where it passes through zero, and hence blasts the arc. In the gas storage chamber, mixing takes place between the hot and the cold insulating gas, resulting in a reduction in the extinguishing characteristics. This disadvantageous mixing of the hot and cold extinguishing gas is avoided by the insertion of an intermediate wall 8 into the gas storage chamber 7 which separates the inflowing hot extinguishing gas from the cold extinguishing gas which is to be compressed and used for the extinguishing process. <IMAGE>
