[origin: EP0309437A2] A sports shoe (1) has a high shaft (2) made of softer material and a reinforcement insert (3) made of harder material which surrounds the heel and projects on both sides into the central foot region. In order to achieve maximum lateral stability without affecting longitudinal mobility, the reinforcement insert (3), which is open on the sole side, has lateral tabs (5a) which are drawn up over the ankles and are separated from one another by a recess (6) in the region of the Achilles tendon down as far as its base.
