[origin: EP0309814A1] The invention relates to an electric energy generation device in which a rotating field machine, coupled to a drive machine, is connected with its armature winding (1) to an AC network (5) at a frequency independent of speed and is connected with its exciter winding (2) to the AC output of a converter (13) connected to the same AC network (5). An adequate exciter power is ensured in the event of a short-circuit by the armature winding (1) being connected via the primary winding (3) of a mutual inductance (4) to the AC network (5), and the secondary winding (6) of this mutual inductance (4) being connected to an exciter rectifier (8) whose DC side can be connected to the exciter winding (2) in the case of a network short-circuit. <IMAGE>
