[origin: JPH01118631A] PURPOSE: To take up the end of a roving at a reference point existing at the upstream side in a drafting apparatus and introduce it into the main drafting region, and thus speedily surely treat thread breakage with a relatively simple mechanical means. CONSTITUTION: When a sensor 9 detects thread breakage, a carriage 12 moves to the position of its spinning station 3 and pushes a plug 32 of a clamping device in the direction of the arrowhead 31 to clamp a roving 2. The roving 2 is divided at a position directly after a trumpet 30, a gripper 34 is engaged with the end part 37 of the roving taking the position as a reference point 33, and the end part 37 is introduced into a central discharging point 40 existing directly before the main drafting region 16. The roving part positioned between the main drafting region and the reference point is pulled in the lateral direction, and it is introduced into a spare drafting region 15 by the tension generated in the main drafting region.
