The baler (1) for paper and similar fibre-containing and moisture-absorbing material comprises a press box (3) which can be filled from above and a press ram (6) which can be moved forward in said box from a withdrawn rest position by means of a drive and which possesses, behind a pressing plate (8) which essentially covers the cross-section of the press box (3), laterally concealed rollers (15, 17) for supporting the press ram (6) on roller conveyors (base 19) of the press box (3). To protect the rollers (15, 17) from the risk of blocking as a result of dusty material, which is compressed and hardens in the moist state, the baler (1) is designed in such a way that, of the rollers (15, 17), at least the rollers (15) which lie closest to the press plate are substantially enclosed on their circumferential side by a cover (25) of a smooth, water-rejecting plastic and/or metal, the cover (25) leaving only a narrow gap for movement with respect to the rollers (15, 17). Such a cover preferably has the basic form of a continuous ingot strip which possesses recesses for the rollers, but, moreover, projects laterally with respect to the rollers, in order to form a sliding block between the press ram (6) and the press box (3). <IMAGE>

Eine Ballenpresse (1) für Papier und dergleichen faserhaltiges und feuchtigkeitsaufnehmendes Material mit einem von oben befüllbaren Preßkasten (3) und einem in diesem aus einer zurückgezogenen Ruhestellung mittels eines Antriebs vorbeweglichen Preßstempel (6), der hinter einer den Querschnitt des Preßkastens (3) im wesentlichen abdeckenden Preßplatte (8) seitlich verdeckt angeordnete Rollen (15,17) zur Abstützung des Preßstempels (6) auf Rollenbahnen (Boden 19) des Preßkastens (3) aufweist, wird zum Schutz der Rollen (15,17) gegen eine Blockierungsgefahr durch im feuchten Zustand verdichtetes und aushärtendes Staubmaterial in der Weise ausgestaltet, daß von den Rollen (15,17) zumindest die der Preßplatte nächstliegenden Rollen (15) umfangsseitig durch eine Abdeckung (25) aus einem glatten, wasserabweisenden Kunststoff und/oder Metall weitghend umschlossen sind, wobei die Abdeckung (25) zu den Rollen (15,17) lediglich einen schmalen Bewegungsspalt freiläßt. Eine solche Abdeckung wird vorzugsweise in der Grundform einer durchlaufenden Blockleiste ausgebildet, die Aussparungen für die Rollen aufweist, im übrigen aber seitlich gegenüber den Rollen vorsteht, um einen Gleitschuh zwischen Preßstempel (6) und Preßkasten (3) zu bilden.
