[origin: EP0311797A2] A sound-damping covering element has a three-layer sandwich construction with a core layer of elastic material, filled with a high-density filler, and with an inner layer on the inside of the core layer and with an outer layer on the outside of the core layer. The inner layer and the outer layer consist of duroplastic or thermoplastic material. The covering element is notable for high sound-damping capability and is particularly suitable as a cylinder head cap for internal combustion engines. <IMAGE>
