The container, especially a stackable plastic transport container, has on each opposite ribbed side wall (6) a carrying handle (3) which can be swivelled from a hanging position of rest into an upright functional position. In the hanging position of rest, the carrying handles (3) are received between the reinforcing ribs (7, 8, 9 and 10) without requiring additional space. In the upright functional position, the carrying handles (3) overlap the upper ribs (7 and 8) inside flat edge recesses (17). In this region, the carrying handles (3) have a flat cross section, by which means the recesses (17) are of particularly flat construction and hardly impair the reinforcing effect of the ribs (7 and 8). The bearing of the carrying handles (3) has a bearing axle (4) which is arranged below the second upper rib (8), which axle is held in bore holes of the vertical ribs (10) by means of a firm fit and thus exerts an additional reinforcing effect in the upper region of the container (1). One carrying handle (3) is mounted in each case so as to be swivellable on each bearing axle (4) by means of a bearing bush (13) in such a way that, due to the axial length of the bearing bush (13) between vertical ribs (10) on both sides, the axial fixing of the carrying handle (3) is achieved, whereas, due to the assignment of the bearing axle (4) to the rib (8) located above it and the correspondingly generously dimensioned bearing clearance of the bearing bush (13) on the bearing axle (4), the weight of the container is transferred directly from the carrying handle (3) to the rib (8) due to the bearing bush (13) resting on the underside of the rib (8) without loading the bearing points of the bearing axle (4). Ein Behälter, insbesondere stapelbarer Transport-Behälter aus Kunststoff, weist an gegenüberliegenden verrippten Seitenwänden (6) je einen aus einer hängenden Ruhelage in eine stehende Funktionslage schwenkbaren Tragegriff (3) auf. In hängender Ruhelage werden die Tragegriffe (3) ohne zusätzlichen Platzbedarf zwischen den Versteifungs-Rippen (7, 8, 9 und 10) aufgenommen. In stehender Funktionslage übergreifen die Tragegriffe (3) die oberen Rippen (7 und 8) innerhalb flacher Rand-Aussparungen (17). In diesem Bereich sind die Tragegriffe (3) mit einem flachen Querschnitt ausgebildet, wodurch auch die Aussparungen (17) besonders flach ausgebildet sind und die Versteifungswirkung der Rippen (7 und 8) kaum beeinträchtigen. Die Lagerung der Tragegriffe (3) weist eine unterhalb der zweiten oberen Rippe (8) angeordnete Lagerachse (4) auf, die in Bohrungen der vertikalen Rippen (10) mittels Festsitz gehalten ist und dadurch eine zusätzliche Versteifungswirkung im oberen Bereich des Behälters (1) ausübt.
