Abstract (en)

[origin: JPH01134232A] PURPOSE: To evaluate rear scattering generated at the outside of a front window glass of the operation room of an automobile and rear scattering generated due to contamination at the location of the front window glass by providing a light emitting equipment and a photosensor at the inside of the front window glass. CONSTITUTION: A light emitting equipment 1 and a photosensor 2 are provided at a rear-viewing mirror at the inside of a front window glass 3 of an automobile. The light emitting equipment 1 generates a short light pulse, the rays are directed to nearly the driving direction of the automobile, and one portion of the emitted light is reflected and scattered depending on the degree of the contamination of the front window glass 3. Also, when the automobile drives through a mist region or a sight condition is limited due to, for example, smoke, one portion of the light of the light emitting equipment 1 is further reflected and scattered and partially enters the photosensor 2. A signal processing device 9 distinguishes rays that are reflected and scattered from the front window glass 3 from those that are reflected and scattered from a scattering region 7 for evaluation.
