[origin: EP0313011A1] There is described a picking mechanism for the weft insertion element of a weaving machine, comprising a pivot lever (1) which receives the energy for the insertion of the weft from a tension element (2) which is tensionable via a cam mechanism (3). The tension element (2) can in principle be any elongate element, for example a tension bar made of steel or a rope made of high strength aramid fibres. The cam mechanism (3) consists preferably of a toggle lever (4), which is extended and pressed somewhat beyond dead centre by a first cam disc (6) and which is forced back over dead centre by a second cam disc (7) to initiate the picking movement. A braking element (8) makes it possible to brake the picking movement of the pivot lever (1) at the end of the picking movement. <IMAGE>
