Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0313726A2] The invention relates to a process and a furnace for an economical heating process, the material to be heated being transported discontinuously through the furnace space via a roller lifting hearth or roller walking-beam system, the conveyor rollers (15) of which are arranged outside on the furnace side walls (11) movably backwards and forwards transversely to the direction of travel of the material to be heated and are moved through suitable wall passages (18) into the furnace space (10) and under the pieces to be heated (13) only for the short time of the transport of the material to be heated. When the conveyor rollers (15) are raised or when the set-down stands (14) are lowered, the conveyor rollers (15) take the material to be heated (13) and transport it stepwise by means of brief rotary movement. Subsequently, in each case, the pieces of the material to be heated (13) are removed from the conveyor rollers (15) by the set-down stands (14) by opposite vertical relative movement and the conveyor rollers (15) are moved back into the open into a cooling rest position. This conveyor roller arrangement outside the furnace space leads to relatively low loading and low wear of the rollers because it has only short dwell times in the hot furnace space (10) but in between always long cooling phases. The otherwise conventional water-cooling installation for the conveyor roller train in the furnace space is also eliminated. <IMAGE>
