The invention resides in the fact that the display and control device comprises a keyboard, the keys each corresponding to a given command and being grouped in a number of zones (A, B, C and D) and each zone comprising one or more luminous indicators (G0 to G7), the appearance of which guides step by step the user of the appliance in the choice of commands in order to program the cooking of a dish. The parameters of this cooking can be recorded with the aid of the keys in zone (D) to form a recipe which the user can select at a later stage. <IMAGE>
