[origin: EP0315036A2] The vertical blind or small awning (1) includes a fixed, rotatably mounted winding shaft (6), on which a blind cloth (7) is fixed by one edge. The front edge of the blind cloth is connected to a fall bar (8). Underneath the winding shaft (6), on both sides of the paid-out blind cloth, there extend two guide rails (11, 12) in which guiding carriages (9) run. On these guide rails (9) are mounted either the fall bar (8) - directly - or two support arms and a deflection roller, the fall bar being attached to the free ends of the support arms. To prevent the carriages being lifted by a gust of wind, at least one guiding carriage (9) is assigned a locking mechanism (17) which is controlled by the actuation of the blind. The locking mechanism (17) has three operating states, of which one is connected when the blind is paid out, another when the blind is retracted and a third when the blind is to be secured against an upward movement. The change between the various operating states is effected by correspondingly changing the direction of movement. <IMAGE>
