[origin: DE3719218A1] Compact disk readers first read the index of the content of a compact disk introduced to be read and record it in total or in part. In spite of the high degree of redundancy of such indexes, it may happen that they are unreadable for compact disk readers. To allow a compact disk reader to work in spite of the unreadability of the index, the scanning device of the compact disk reader looks for the end of the index. The part of the compact disk which follows the index can then be reproduced. The index data are recovered during reproduction of the compact disk or during a previous stage by stage scanning.

Des lecteurs de disques compacts lisent d'abord le sommaire d'un disque compact introduit pour lecture et l'enregistrent en partie ou en entier. Malgré le degré élevé de redondance de ces sommaires, il peut arriver qu'ils soient illisibles pour des lecteurs de disques compacts. Afin de permettre à un lecteur de disques compacts de fonctionner en dépit de l'illisibilité du sommaire, le dispositif d'exploration du lecteur de disques compacts cherche la fin du sommaire. La partie du disque compact qui suit le sommaire peut alors être reproduite. Les données du sommaire sont récupérées pendant la reproduction du disque compact ou pendant une exploration préalable par étapes.
